Pixar's animated adventure "Up" continued its overseas dominance as the film picked up $27.9 million in 24 territories to top the international box office for yet another weekend. The film's total gross currently stands at $295.8 million.
Disney's 3D family film "G-Force" came in second with earnings of $12.5 million, bringing its overseas total to $127.9 million. Following in third place again was "The Ugly Truth," which brought in $8.8 million for a cume of $94.1 million.
At No. 4, Universal's comedy "Couples Retreat" generated $6.8 million from ticket sales in five markets, bringing its early international total to $10.8 million. The film starring Vince Vaughn follows four couples forced to participate in therapy sessions at a tropical island resort.
Meanwhile, Quentin Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds" finished fifth this weekend, collecting $6.4 million for a cumulative gross of $166 million.
Other results from the overseas box office: "District 9" bagged $5.9 million for a $77.2 million total; "Agora" scored $4.4 million; "Surrogates" earned $3.9 million; and "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs" collected $3.7 million.
I'm glad to see "Up" growing as it heads toward its final territories. The performance by "Couples Retreat" was quite surprising to me, considering it's only playing in five markets right now. Other than that, this was just another quiet weekend.
