McG boards Disney's '20,000 Leagues'

McG is ready to submerge...

The director is set to helm Walt Disney's upcoming family flick "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: Captain Nemo."

Featuring characters from the Jules Verne novel and written by Bill Marsilli, the film focuses on Nemo's efforts to build the Nautilus, his advanced submarine.

Disney previously released a "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" in 1954. The film starred Kirk Douglas and James Mason and ended up winning two Oscars.

Variety reports Disney hopes to develop the project later this year.

McG, whose credits include "Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle" and "We Are Marshall," is currently wrapping up post-production for "Terminator Salvation." He is also expected to direct a sequel.
