Tom and Jerry heading to the big screen
Could this be the worst idea ever? I mean, I have nothing against Tom & Jerry coming to the big screen, but in CG?
Warner Bros. certainly thinks it's a brilliant idea. According to Variety, the studio is planning a flick with CG characters running around in a live-action world.
"Scooby-Doo," "Alvin and the Chipmunks" and "Garfield: The Movie" used the same concept and technique, and those films all sucked big time.
Anyway, Eric Gravning is writing the script, but a director has not been announced yet. According to the trade, the film will be "origin story that reveals how Tom and Jerry first meet and form their rivalry before getting lost in Chicago and reluctantly working together during an arduous journey home."
Considering the success of "Alvin," this project will certainly pay off for Warner Bros., regardless of the film's quality. I'm willing to wait and see, but something about this idea just doesn't seem right.
