Daily news dose: Huppert to head Cannes jury, 'Dark Knight' DVD rules

Here's your dose of quick news bits for Dec. 29, 2008...

• Actress Isabelle Huppert is set to serve as the jury president of the 62nd edition of the Cannes Film Festival. "I've had a long relationship with Cannes and this next meeting will definitely seal my love for the Festival and thus for global cinema," she said. (Variety)

• Just as much as "The Dark Knight" ruled the worldwide box office this past summer, the film also topped last week's video sales chart. The Coen brothers' "Burn After Reading" debuted at No. 2, with "Death Race" finishing in third place. (The Hollywood Reporter)

• Hugo Weaving, Hugh Jackman and Ryan Kwanten are expected to join the voice cast of Zack Snyder's upcoming animated film "Guardians of Ga'Hoole," based children's books by Kathryn Lasky. The story focuses on a bunch of Barn Owls whose kingdom is threatened by evil rogue owls. (The Daily Telegraph)

• Myriad Pictures is developing a big-screen version of the horror comic book series "The Night Projectionist," according to Variety. Set during a Draculathon in a movie theater on Halloween Eve, the story focuses on a bunch of moviegoers who face real vampires after finding themselves locked inside the theater.
