Russo brothers to adapt their own graphic novel

The brothers Russo are planning to adapt and direct “Ciudad,” a graphic novel they are currently writing with Ande Parks, according to Variety.

The story focuses on a hostage extractor who travels to the dangerous Ciudad del Este in Paraguay to rescue a kidnapped victim.

Anthony and Joe Russo are writing the graphic novel for Oni Press, while Paramount Pictures will develop the big-screen adaptation.

This project is definitely a departure from what they’ve recently worked on. Besides directing several episodes of “Arrested Development,” the duo also helmed “Welcome to Collinwood” and 2006’s disappointing Owen Wilson vehicle “You, Me and Dupree.

Oni Press will publish “Ciudad” sometime next year.
