'Rachel Getting Married' premieres in Venice

Jonathan Demme's latest drama "Rachel Getting Married" premiered at the 65th edition of the Venice Film Festival, and first reactions were quite positive. Starring Anne Hathaway, the film centers on a former drug addict who returns home to attend her sister’s wedding and confront her family over past conflicts.

• "The screenplay, by Jenny Lumet, is smart, spiky and observant," writes Wendy Ide at Times Online.

• "Demme lets reality happen in front of the cameras without trying to manipulate it too much," writes Emanuel Levy.

And this is what The Hollywood Reporter has to say about it.

Wow, that all sounds fabulous. We'll be able to see Demme's flick in limited release Oct. 3, 2008.
