'Mamma Mia!' rules overseas b.o. yet again

Franck Tabouring Universal’s “Mamma Mia!” is still rocking the big screen overseas, clinging to the top spot for the fourth consecutive weekend with an estimated $15.3 million in ticket sales, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The hit musical starring Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan and Colin Firth, among others, lifted its international total to $356.4 million, a far better performance than its $142.2 million domestic take.
Meanwhile, Pixar’s “WALL-E” finished second with $11.1 million after opening in several new markets, lifting its overseas total to $215.4 million. Ben Stiller’s “Tropic Thunder” followed at No. 3 with a weekend gross of $7.4 million and a total of $41 million.
At No. 4, Universal’s “The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor” took home $5.6 million, reaching an international total of $283.2 million. Following in fifth place was D.J. Caruso’s action hit “Eagle Eye,” which collected $4.2 million in 13 territories.
Other results from the international box office: “Wanted” scored $4 million to bring its total haul to $182.6 million; Peter Berg’s Will Smith vehicle “Hancock” climbed to $391.7 million after this weekend’s earnings of $2.3 million; “The Dark Knight” reached $460 million; and “Iron Man” earned another $2 million.
Also opening overseas was “The House Bunny,” which grabbed $755,000 in three markets.
