The biggest romance of the fall season has arrived. George C. Wolfe's "Nights in Rodanthe" may not be the best, but considering it's based on the novel by Nicholas Sparks, it is certainly the sappiest. Hey, and why not? Although I have not seen the film yet (check back for my review tonight), I am eager to find out what online critics have to say about Diane Lane and Richard Gere's chemistry onscreen. Oh yeah, and James Franco is in this too...
• George Roush at LatinoReview: "Night in Rodanthe is a movie that can only appeal to fans of The Notebook and the senior citizens who don’t have bingo on Friday nights."
• Cinema Blend's Katey Rich: "Taking innately charming stars Richard Gere and Diane Lane and stranding them in a glacial plot, the movie doesn't even earn the tears it's so desperate to wring out in the final scenes."
• Brian Orndorf at Collider: "A shameless, sentimental, sudsy soap opera, "Nights in Rodanthe" is kept animated by the superior work of the cast, who take the surface mentality of the source material and make it a deeply felt, agreeably tragic romantic experience."
