Back in July, we found an article about the possibility of Johnny Depp appearing in Tim Burton’s upcoming version of Lewis Carroll’s “Alice in Wonderland,” and now it’s official: Depp will be a part of the project.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Depp will play the Mad Hatter. Australian actress Mia Wasikowska is set to play Alice, with Matt Lucas starring as Tweedledum and Tweedledee.

Although I usually ignore rumors, I figured Depp would make at least some sort of appearance in the film. The actor previously worked with Burton on “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street,” “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” and several other projects.

The Walt Disney-produced project will head into principal photography later this year, with a release in Digital 3D scheduled for 2010.
