I was hoping it would happen one day, but I didn’t think it would happen this fast. Ladies and gentlemen: Will Ferrell is officially retiring from the sports movie genre.

As reported by the Associated Press, Ferrell said he’s done with playing goofy athletes on the big screen.

"I will no longer attempt to do any sports movie, anymore. Any sports," he said Friday at a charity golf tournament.

I personally think that’s good news. Ferrell delivered some funny performances over the past years, but it’s time to move on.

Ferrell’s sports comedies include “Kicking & Screaming,” “Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby,” “Blades of Glory” and “Semi-Pro.”
