‘Mamma Mia!’ rocks overseas box office

Franck Tabouring “Mamma Mia!” continued its international box office reign this weekend with $14 million in 48 territories, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The lifts the musical’s overseas total to $334 million.
Working its way up to the second spot was Universal’s “Wanted,” which collected $11.6 million in 34 countries to reach a total gross of $172.1 million. Following at No. 3 with $8.1 million was Ben Stiller’s “Tropic Thunder,” which reached an international total of $29.1 million.
Meanwhile, Pixar’s “WALL-E” pulled in $6.6 million in 37 markets, bringing its cumulative gross to $200.1 million. Ranking fifth was Peter Berg’s “Hancock,” which reached $387 million after this weekend’s earnings of $6.1 million.
Also opening overseas was Woody Allen’s “Vicky Cristina Barcelona,” which took home a solid $3.2 million in Spain. Diane English’s comedy “The Women” earned $1.1 million to lift its total haul to $4 million.
Other results from the international box office: “The Dark Knight” picked up $4 million to reach $455.7 million total; “Step Brothers” made $3 million for a total of $15.6 million; and “Kung Fu Panda” brought its total to $408.2 million.
