Jude Law may soon board Guy Ritchie’s new take on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s famous “Sherlock Holmes,” Variety reported Thursday.

The trade says Law is in talks to star as Watson, the detective’s sidekick. Robert Downey Jr. stars as the film’s titular character.

Plot details are unknown at this point, but the story line will be based on several of Doyle’s tales. More casting updates should follow in the coming weeks as production is expected to kick off next month.

In an August interview with USA Today, Ritchie said, "It will be a very big production, visceral and intellectual." Whatever that means…

Law was last seen in Wong Kar Wai’s “My Blueberry Nights.” He recently wrapped filming for Terry Gilliam’s upcoming adventure “The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus.”

As for Ritchie, his latest crime flick “RocknRolla” is scheduled to open Oct. 31.
