Ben Affleck is set to rewrite, direct and star in the Warner Bros. adaptation of Chuck Hogan’s novel “The Prince of Thieves,” Variety reported earlier today.
The film, which is titled “The Town,” focuses on a thief who falls in love with the manager of the bank he recently robbed.
Hogan and Peter Craig wrote the screenplay, which Affleck will polish before returning behind the camera. Adrian Lyne was previously attached to direct the project.
“Town” is Affleck’s second directorial effort after last year’s acclaimed drama “Gone Baby Gone.” The actor will next be seen in Ken Kwapis’ “He’s Just Not That Into You,” followed by Kevin Macdonald’s “State of Play” next year.
Affleck sure did a fine job directing “Gone,” and I’m convinced he can pull this off if he decides to devote just as much passion and time to it. Come on Ben, surprise us again.
