Johnny Depp, Gore Verbinski team up for ‘Rango’

Johnny Depp and director Gore Verbinski are reteaming for Paramount’s upcoming animated family flick “Rango,” according to Variety.

Written by John Logan, screenwriter of “The Aviator,” the plot focuses on a pet (voiced by Depp) that embarks on an adventure to discover its true self.

Verbinski developed the original idea behind the project, which Paramount aims to release in March 2011. Industrial Light & Magic will work on the animation.

“Rango” marks the first production Depp and Verbinski work on together since the three “Pirates of the Caribbean” flicks.

Verbinski and Logan are also currently developing a big-screen version of Take-Two’s popular video game “Bioshock.”

Depp was last seen in Tim Burton’s “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.” He also recently wrapped filming Michael Mann’s next crime drama “Public Enemies.”
