Great Movie Moments #2 – ‘Road to Perdition’

Welcome back to another edition of our new series "Great Movie Moments." Last week we started off with a nice scene from "The Village," and today we have a great sequence from Sam Mendes' fantastic "Road to Perdition," a crime thriller about a hit man who vows to seek revenge against those who killed his wife and his youngest son.

In the scene above, Tom Hanks takes on a bunch of guys who work for Mr. Rooney (played by Paul Newman). Although the scene as such is rather simple, the setup and editing work marvelously. Plus, Thomas Newman's incredibly beautiful score fits perfectly. I really enjoyed the movie and found several other moments I could have picked for this entry, but this one is clearly the most captivating one. Enjoy.

I absolutely agree with this choice. Although Road to Perdition didn't do so great at the box office, it's one my personal favorites - and I was especially struck by this particular scene as well - the choreography, the lighting, the mood, the music, the silence - all brilliantly executed - this scene stuck in my mind for long after I saw the movie: definitely a case of less is more.
