A contender for the Golden Lion at this year’s Venice Film Festival, Jonathan Demme’s drama “Rachel Getting Married” stars Anne Hathaway as a former drug addict who returns home to attend her sister’s wedding and confront her family over past conflicts. Yahoo! just premiered the first trailer, which you can check out above.

When I first read the synopsis for the film I immediately thought of “Margot at the Wedding,” in which Nicole Kidman causes nothing but trouble in the days leading up to her sister’s wedding. “Rachel Getting Married” seems to tackle a similar thematic, but with a different tone.

I’m also glad to see Anne Hathaway in something less mainstream. Plus, what I’ve seen of her in this trailer so far definitely left me wanting to see more. At this stage, Demme’s movie is scheduled to open in limited release at the beginning of October. This may change though in the near future, depending on how well it’ll be received in Venice later this month.
