Rogue plans sequel to ‘The Strangers’

Rogue Pictures is set to develop a sequel to Bryan Bertino’s horror thriller “The Strangers,” according to Variety.

Produced on a budget of roughly $9 million, the film opened in May and generated $54 million domestically. Liz Tyler and Scott Speedman starred as a couple terrorized by three mysterious attackers.

Bertino is expected to write the follow-up, although it’s not clear whether he’ll return to direct. The plot of the sequel will likely involve Liv Tyler and some of the first film’s villains.

Currently, Bertino is working on “Black,” which at this stage is described as a thriller with supernatural elements. He is also writing “Alone,” a thriller that has already been in development at Rogue for quite a while.

Although I pretty much enjoyed “The Strangers,” I really hate the idea of Rogue trying to launch another horror franchise à la “Saw.”

What’s your reaction to this? Did you like “The Strangers”? Do you want to find out what happens to Liv Tyler’s character? Or couldn’t you care less? Sound off below.

Why a sequel to The Strangers? Other than money?

Not to say I didn't enjoy The Strangers.. But, afterwards I felt this movie could have been made on a much lower budget. Sure $9 million is low by Hollywood standards, but it could have easily been made on a budget less than $20 with lesser known actors.

Basically the film had all of 4 settings, 3 of which were at the house. They could have used any random house in any random neighborhood.

Liv Tyler's character was the only surviving charcter of this random, brutal attack. the only reasoning I can see for a sequel, would be for these 3 characters to come back and torture her more. Letting her live after the slaying of her boyfriend, being as much of a horror as what she has went through. Now coming back, and putting her through the same hell.
