By now, I'm sure you've read all about the numerous controversies Ben Stiller's latest action comedy "Tropic Thunder" has caused over the past weeks. Nonetheless, the nation's top critics offered the film a warm welcome with some extraordinarily positive reviews. But what do the Web people have to say about the new stunt by Stiller, Jack Black and Robert Downey Jr.? Let's find out (I will post my review later today).
• Brad Brevet at RopeOfSilicon: "Stiller shows an incredible ability to manage a highly complex project, which mirrors many big-budget dramas in terms of complexity, but it pieces it all together in such a way you sometimes can forget you are watching a comedy."
• LatinoReview's Ron Henriques: "As I said, Downey Jr. is the hook for this film, but the real shame lies in the fact that the best of what you see of him has already played in the film's trailer and promo ads."
• Collider's Brian Orndorf: "It's an industry rarity that's worth applauding."
• CinemaBlend's Josh Tyler: "It doesn’t just present jokes on the screen and then wait for you to laugh, it shoves comedy dynamite up your nose and then giggles while it lights the fuse."
• James Rocchi at Cinematical: "As a director, Stiller's crafted a big, shiny comedy, and the scale is, for the most part, matched by the laughs."
• Kevin Carr at FilmSchoolRejects: "One of the funniest movies of the summer, if you get the jokes."
So, how does that sound? If you're part of or support one of the organizations condemning the flick, I'm sure you're won't catch it anyway, but in case you're not, what's stopping you? Off to the jungle!
