You may never have heard of Eric Brevig before, but he’s quite the popular guy in Hollywood. Although he’s only now celebrating his directorial debut with “Journey to the Center of the Earth,” Brevig is known for his work as visual effects supervisor on films such as “Men in Black” and “The Day After Tomorrow.”“Center of the Earth” is a modern version of Jules Verne’s 19th century classic and stars Brendan Fraser as a geologist who discovers a whole new world at the planet’s core. One thing to really get excited about is the fact that this is the first full 3D live action flick using the RealD technology.
Comingsoon.net’s Edward Douglas sat down and talked to Brevig about the movie and the challenges you face as a director when you make a movie using the latest 3D technology. Here’s a tiny bit of what Brevig had to say about shooting for 3D:
“A lot of times CG people don't go outside enough and don't know what photography does to complex textures and they make it up and it looks like a videogame. Here, it's like, ‘This is what it looks like. Take pictures of this. Use still photographs of the small piece of set to build your base set, and it will all look the same.’”“Journey to the Center of the Earth” opens everywhere this Friday.
