Is a ‘Twilight’ sequel already coming December ’09?

Although this is all just a big rumor at this point, ShockTillYouDrop.com reports that word about the production of a sequel to Catherine Hardwicke’s upcoming vampire romance “Twilight” has popped up online. “Twilight” is based on Stephenie Meyer’s novel of the same title and follows a teenage girl (played by Kristen Stewart) who falls in love with a vampire (Robert Pattinson). The flick opens everywhere Dec. 12, 2008.
According to this new rumor, Summit Entertainment is already going after the rights for “New Moon,” Meyer’s sequel to her best seller. The planned release date for the big-screen adaptation would be December 2009.
A trailer for “Twilight” was released a couple of weeks ago, and I have to admit it didn’t really win me over. The concept of this vampire tragedy sounds incredibly sappy to me at this point, although I admit I never read Meyer’s book.
What do you guys think? Would the confirmation of this rumor totally make your day? Or do you rather think “Twilight” is going to stink big time?

The trailer didn't really give the film justice. I've seen other clips and they are great.
I really hope the movie is better than the trailer. It didnt exactly capture me. I absolutely love the book and im going to be really sad if they majorly stray from Meyers amazing book.
I'm so excited for the Twilight movie! I'm reading the books and they are all great! I can't wait for 12-12-08!!
I definitely think the movie is going to be pretty good. But in respect to the books, it may not be all that great. You really can't tell from the short teaser they gave us. I'm still praying though :]
My suggestion for you is to read the novel. It's really not all sap.
I love Meyer's Twilight series and hope the movie will be a hit! Do I want to see New Moon made into a sequel? Absolutely! I'd like to see each book in the series on the big screen!
Maybe you should read the books, before passing judgement on the a movie that has yet to be released. They are very intresting books, you get hooked on them. I'm 25 yrs old and I loved them, I even got my mother to read them herself, and she already read all 3 in about two weeks.
The book is amazing but the trailer already shows signs of the movie straying away from the original story!
YOU SHOULD KNOW that if you love a book that is made into a movie it is a good idea to view the movie as something completely different from the book. If you view it as two different stories based on the same thing then you will appreciate the movie more!
I LOVE these books and can't wait until the movie is released here in country Aus! I think that all four of the books should be made into movies, and possibly even the up and coming companion books as well!
The movie "Twilight" is already a smash hit because of Stephenie Meyer's book. If people thought "Harry Potter" was big, just wait until "Twilight" is released. It's going to reach a much larger audience, and believe me, it doesn't lack for action. When there are vampires and werewolfes involved, there is plenty of action.
Don't judge a book by it's movie...
If you haven't read the books, then you cannot understand the story, the compulsion Bella and Edward feel, the emotions... You cannot judge this by the trailer. "Sappy" is the worst of descriptions for this book and hopefully movie. The trailer does make the movie seem less than what one would want, but the casting is perfect, and the other clips and behind the scenes show the movies true potential. With the author on set, some of the true effects of the book are being displyed in the big screen.
So my advice, read the book, read the book, read the book, because there are so many things you can't pull out of the movie, that only a book can communicate.
And I would like to say, this is not a book or movie only for men, I know many guys who have read the series several times, and love it.
You can't critisise the story and call it sap without having read the books yourself.
The trailer was acceptable; no worse than the Harry Potter trailers.
Obviously, the movie will be different to the book, but that is ok.
Hey everybody. I absolutely give the film a fair chance, like I always do before I see it. And my "sappy" comment only refers to what I saw so far in the trailer. You just have to agree that sometimes, film adaptations take a very different direction from the books. But we will see.
I really liked Twilight, New Moon and Eclipse. The movie trailer is cool but the clip on twilightthemovie.com of James and Bella is really good.I know the movie is going to be amazing I can't wait for it to come out! I'm also awaiting the unveiling of Breaking Dawn
No doubt the fans of the books will go see and love the movie version, even with the disappointments when their favorite bits are left out or changed around. The challenge for the film makers is making it just as appealing to the general public who have not read the books. A sappy teenage vampire fantasy vs sci-fi classic remake 'The Day the Earth Stood Still' opening at the same time is not the best scenario. But you never know, the enthusiasm of the book's fan base may help at the box office. I'm over forty, and loved the stories as much as my daughters, and hope to see all four books on the big screen.
I loved the books, and I'll admit that the trailer doesn't look as amazing as it should - but I'm still really excited. And while it is basically all girls replying to this post that's probably because I can't imagine many guys being thrilled by the trailer (but not the books, they're awsome). The full length might be better though, and I liked the bit where he was hunting the deer. (I have deeply repressed memories about the number of times I was forced to watch bambi in this one week when i was 6)
Also, many of the Harry Potter trailers are complete crap but tehy still pull in millions!
Let's not forget that the trailer is just the teaser. It's a fresh start and of course they can't give away much. I personnaly liked it because it's what made me hooked on the books. When I first viewed it I couldn't help but hit play again. What was that? What were they talking about? It captivated me. Of course by now I have read all the books and of course I'm excited there gonna make the New Moon movie! No matter how it Twilight turns out, I will still love the story and watch the sequel!
the trailer really didn't do the movie or book justice. I've seen some of the other clips and they are amazing!!! Plus, u should really read the book before you go and see the movie. Just a piece of advice because I think it would really help you understand everything a lot better.
Also: I think New Moon as a movie would be AMAZINGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG. the scene in Italy? oh my jessssuz.
I thought the trailer was quick and cool. i hope the movie lives up to the book's awesomeness. i'm totally ecstatic that the movie premieres this year and i hope that the rumor is true. i'm not too sure how well some of the actors will portray the characters, but i think robert pattinson will be a great edward. i'm 12 and i LOVE the twilight series so much that i read all three in about a week.
I cannot wait for the movie! I'm counting down the days already. Right now I'm reading New Moon and it's amazing! I asked my mom to buy Twilight for me because I really wanted to read it before the movie came out and I'm a big fan of Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson. When I came home later that night my mom had started it. She finished all 3 books in less than 3 days. And now she's reading them over again. My mom is almost 40 years old and she never reads.
I'm expecting the other books to be made into movies. Without the other books as movies that'd be like the first Lord of the Rings movie coming out and then not the other two. It would be like severe torture.
Personally, I recommend reading the books before judging. I've seen the teaser trailer many times and each time I break out in goosebumps because I'm so excited. If you're not interested by the teaser trailer I highly suggest going to the movie site. There's another clip on there and a short making of the movie. If those don't get you interested then maybe you should just read the books first.
I have a really good feeling about the movie. I think that it's going to live up to the expectations of the book, while still keeping a separate identity of its own. Sure the trailer's are showing some things that weren't in the book, but each director is allowed to stray from the path a little bit, not everything dreamt up in the book can be put into reality, unless you want to go straight cartoon. I'm sure Stephanie Myer had input on changes in the movie accordingly. Also referring to the sequal, I think it would be an awesome idea, the scenes in Italy would be absolutely gorgeous, but i think it would be a real tear jerker during the parts after the birthday party--sorry, i'm trying not to give away the book to anyone who hasn't read it yet--but i would be totally phyched for it.
I'm giving the same advice to anyone who is doubting this movie--READ THE BOOK.
I've seen plenty of other clips and it looks like the Twilight movie will be a wonderful success.
It looks just as amazing as the book describes everything and I think the casting in the movie is spot on too. You should read the books before you say its sappy - it's not at all :]
in no time at all you'd be hooked on them.
I read all 3 in 3 days and re-read parts of the books every day.
They are so captivating.
The movie looks brillant, however I can see that the teaser trailer does not give it justice
Can't wait till the release.
They are making other movies.
I heard in an interview!
So excited for them all.
AND Robert Pattinson [Edward Cullen]
has a crush on Kristen Stewart [Bella]!
Which is so cute.
Haha, I read it in a "Seventeen" interview.
see what most twilight fans dont realize is that its NOT THE MOVIE VERSION OF THE BOOK it is REALLY A MOVIE BASED UPON WHAT HAPPENED WITH THE CHARCTER IN THE BOOK :)
i just hope people understand
I am super excited for the Twilight movie- I agree the trailer didn't do the movie or books justice. I have seen other clips from the movie and love it. I am also a fan of Twilight Tuesday on MTV.
I agree that they have made the perfect choices for the main characters. I hope that the rumors are true and that they are going to make the second, third and fourth (if it ends the way I want it to) into a movie. I hope that they will do what the Harry Potter franchise has done and keep the same people as characters. It would stink to have one Edward and the next movie have another Edward.
TEAM EDWARD
I think the movie will do the film justice. The teaser trailer was good - but the other videos promoting the movie on the offical site are much better in my opinion. Hopefully the full length trailer will get people who haven't read the book very interested.
I hope they make Twilight a film franchise, all the actors are signed on for sequels and if they continued with the series it would have to be done soon so the vamps can't age.
Also you should give the book a chance. It's not sappy. : )
I think that there all ready was a movie named "Twilight" from 1998 and they need to stop using duplicate titles, or is that the add generation at work here??
you cant judge a movie by a 59 second preview. and if you had read the books maybe the trailer would have made more sense. and it may not exaclty follow the book but neither did Lord of the Rings. Twilight is truly an amazing sereies and the other clips are really amazing. Kristen and Robert both play their roles extremely well from the other clips. But its a bit pig headed to judge how impressed you are with a film based on a 59 second trailer.
Megan, at this stage not many people know how close the film is going to be to the book. First looks at films are usually intended to get people's attention and to make them want to see more. If you think the teaser is the best teaser ever produced, then great. If someone thinks a teaser doesn't look convincing enough, then that's fine as well. Just the fact that you love the book for instance shows that it's all about personal opinion anyway.
I'm so excited for Twilight the movie! If the trailer didn't hook you, the book will. So before December, read Stephenie Meyer's book! In my opinion it's the best bok out there (so far)! I'm sure the movie will be a big success! I don't think making a movie out of such a great book could be bad!

Enjoy! Can't wait till DECEMBER!!! Hope you come see the movie!!!!! :D
I say this all the time, the movie is based on the book. It's not going to be exactly the same. Don't get your hopes up thinking it's going to be the book because it's not. Seriously.
you have to read the book.
its absolutely amazing.
the movie will be a little different but once you read the book you'll need to see the movie.
In order to understand the clip that they showed, you must read the book! I must say that if I had never read the book I wouldn't be the least bit instrested in the up coming movie. Since I have read the book, I compleatly understand and I gotta say...I am very excited. This scene says so much to the people who have read the book, yet so little to those who haven't. I say, JUST READ IT!
As for the sequal...doesn't it depend on how well the first movie does? I wouldn't get my hopes up just yet! Untill then, just focus on Twilight the movie.
omg... i really hope this is true! i mean... i cried my eyes out in New Moon (Spoiler! Sorry!!) when Edward left Bella, the movie will be dull without Edward's sexy smile... but i would sit through jacob trying to imprint on Bella... ew!! Sorry peeps, im an Edward fan! I would suffer through Jake, all for Edward telling Bella he still loved her. I Love Twilight with all my heart. I want a movie based on EVERY book. Not Midnight Sun though. Thats pretty impossible. But I'll sum it up and say... make Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn into those blockbuster movies we will love and remember 4 eternity! The Twilight movie will go down in history. I'll sell my soul before i see the Twilight movie less than 12 times in theaters. I love Twilight and Edward! Thanks!
Make new moon a movie. Please?
OMG! I hate reading but this book has kept me interested from the first page. I was upset that there are only doing to be four of them. I love the idea of making the books into movies and I know that poeple everywhere will want to see this breathtaking killer of a movie. I'd see it about 10 times because I love the idea of forbidden love.
I love this book! And I can't wait for the movie-I just read Twilight and New Moon within one week and I am now starting Eclipse. No, the movie will not be exactly like the book, but it does look to be good. But you HAVE to read the book first! The emotions that run through this whole book are so deep and so romantic. It will be hard to create that in a movie, but I think they will do their best. I love this series of books and I am 38 years old! I am going to tell everyone I know about these books and I can't wait for the movie in December!!!
You really can't judge the movie by the trailer-which I don't think captures all of the intrest-without reading the book! This series is amazing and you should really read it and then see what you think about the movie!
The books are amazing and I hope that the movie doesn't stray too far from the books or it will be disapointing.none the less I'm excited to see what Catherine Hardwicke has in store for us!
absolutely make a new moon movie! it is very sad but it would make a good movie and i want them to make all of the books into movies, but please try to keep the same actors! there is no question in the making of the rest of the books!
I personally think the movie will be pretty good, despite the fact that when they create movies based on books, they always leave out parts and add new ones in. My advice, even if the movie doesn't win you over, read the book. Books will almost always be better than the movie.
My daughter, who is a 30 something Language Arts teacher, got hooked on this series by one of her advanced students. She then prompted me, her 60 year old mother, into reading them and I'm not a bit ashamed to admit I was immediately addicted! You need to read them before you pass judgement. Far from sappy and like everyone else I can't wait to see the movie. The casting seems perfect. If it varies some so what! Those who have read the books can infer whatever they wish.
the way i see it is that not having a great trailer gives a movie a bad look but then once seeing it, it was a great movie and then having a trailer with an amazing trailer that catches ur eye like "jumper, Forgetting Sarah Marshall" and others" they dont deliver what the trailer made you think and you end up disappointed in it dont get me wrong those were good movies but they had more protentional, "Dont judge a book by the cover", i'm not saying that your not allowed to have a opnion u just because everyone has the right too but just dont judge it just yet this movie could be like harry potter doesnt quite add up to the book but still gets the box number hits to allow for the other movies to be made and with a fan base like this they will more then likely get the money to do a sequel
PS. I hope this movie does better than harry potter.
Twilight is going to be amazing! I read the book out of reccomendations from friends, and loved it! Now I'm almost finished with the second. I'll have to admit, the second is definitly not as good as the first, but it's still fantastic. I've watched the trailer about 100 times and am SO excited! I have high expectations for this movie and know it will fufill them. Besides, this is a teaser trailer. Teasers are shorter and give out less information. Just wait until the theatrical trailer comes out!
And I totally agree! I hope this does WAAAY better than Harry Potty!
Lol, oops!
I personally am not only hoping for a movie sequel to the film version of Twilight, I am expecting it. And I'm sure, based on the projected income the film is bound to make, a sequel is certainly already being looked into. I can't imagine a single reader of Meyer's books who isn't currently shaking in their boots, waiting anxiously for December 12, 2008 to arrive. I know I certainly am. Also, the trailer being referred to seems to look promising to be. It gives non-readers the limited amount of information they need without giving anything too big away in order for them to become curious and want to see the film. Then again, I'm already a fan of Robert Pattison from his work in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Hopefully for us readers and those bound to become readers or at least Twilight fans after seeing the first film, not one, but three other movies representing the other books in the Twilight series will be filmed and released as movies. As a will-be junior in high school and aspiring film editor, maybe I'll even get to help in one of the films. I can't imagine a thing in the world that would make me happier!
<small>
Twilight will NEVER in history, be a big stink! the rumor of New Moon becoming a movie? Yes it would totally make my day, as long as they make movies for Eclipse and Breaking Dawn as well. because the movie series would not be complete and that would be complete torture to us are a amazingly huge Twilight fans who have all the books and practiacally know every line word for word. Twilight is flawless and breathe taking. i have two friends who absolutely HATED reading. i got them to read Twilight and they were hooked, they've read all the books and are as much anxious as i am for the movie and so, Breaking Dawn, to come out. we all plans to see Twilight together. soo please plaes PLEASE read the book, cause books are always better than movies and everyone should know that by now. reading books before watching the movies help you understand them better. :]
All I can say is: the book twilight: AMAZING!
It's hard to make a movie about that AMAZING book. All we can do is hope the book and the movie are similair. but whatever happens to the movie we allways have the books.
but what i've seen on youtube, the movie looks great to, great cast
