‘Hancock’ web reviews

hancockwebrvs.jpg

I won’t see Peter Berg’s “Hancock” until tomorrow morning, but so far I’ve only heard bad stuff about the new Will Smith vehicle. I’ll be posting my review sometime tomorrow afternoon, but for now, let’s see what the online critics have to say about the drunk superhero. As usual, click on the links below to read the full reviews.

Cinemablend’s Josh Tyler: “Hancock is a bunch of strange, vague ideas crammed into a movie with nowhere to go and absolutely nothing to show us.”

• Brad Brevet over at Ropeofsilicon.com says “Will Smith never looks comfortable as the character John Hancock. Not in the opening sequence when he puckers his lips for - is it comedic effect? - or when he is strutting down the street in his superhero skin tight suit.”

• At Cinematical, Kim Voynar: “Overall though, in spite of its flaws, I very much enjoyed Hancock, for both its interesting and creative storytelling and Smith's great lead performance.”

• Ron Henriques from LatinoReview: “What 'Hancock' needs is a third act and deeper character development, but even without those elements there is entertainment value to be found in what is one of Smith's better efforts.”

• At Moviehole.net, Adam Weeks thinks that “So far, the marketing for “Hancock” has done a good job at keeping from you exactly what the movie is about – because what I’ve just described from the trailers represent around the first 20 minutes to half hour of the film.”

Collider.com’s Brian Orndorf: “It's not a smooth experience, but "Hancock" pleases more than it disappoints, leaving further installments plenty of room to build on what Berg has started here.”

• Finally, Kevin Carr from FilmSchoolRejects says “The script is horribly flawed, which is the primary reason Hancock becomes a train wreck. But Berg does no favors to this film.”

I have to admit most of the reviews I came across so far pretty much trashed the film, but some people out there seemed to have like it a lot. Let’s hope for the best!
