Will Ferrell and Sacha Baron Cohen will play the lead characters in a Judd Apatow-produced Sherlock Holmes comedy for Columbia Pictures.Although plot details have not been revealed yet, Variety reports Etan Cohen (“Tropic Thunder”) is writing the script. Baron Cohen will play master detective Holmes, while Ferrell will jump into the role of his partner Watson.
The film reteams Ferrell and Baron Cohen, who played bitter rivals in Adam McKay’s Talladega Nights,” which Apatow also produced.
Ferrell recently starred in “Semi-Pro” and will next be seen alongside John C. Reilly in McKay’s “Step Brothers.”
Baron Cohen was last seen in “Sweeney Todd” and is currently filming “Bruno,” a mockumentary in the style of “Borat.”
As for Apatow, he’s gearing up for his next directorial effort “Funny People,” which stars Adam Sandler, Seth Rogen, Eric Bana and Jonah Hill.
Baron Cohen and Ferrell as Holmes and Watson? Sounds hilarious. This movie, however, is not to be confused with Guy Ritchie’s upcoming Sherlock Holmes project, which is currently in development at Warner Bros.
