Leonardo DiCaprio is a busy man these days. Not only is the “Titanic” star in talks to portray James Bond creator Ian Fleming in a biopic about the author, but he is also considering playing the lead character in “Atari,” which Paramount is currently developing. As the title suggests, the film focuses on the history of the popular video game manufacturer Atari, or more specifically its co-founder Nolan Bushnell (DiCaprio).
Bushnell and Ted Dabney created Atari in 1972 and turned the company into a pioneer in arcade games and video game consoles. Pong was one of the company’s early successes.
Variety says Brian Hecker and Craig Sherman are penning the script. Hecker recently wrote and directed “Bart Got A Room.”
DiCaprio was last seen in “Blood Diamond.” He recently completed Ridley Scott’s upcoming drama “House of Lies” and Sam Mendes’ “Revolutionary Road,” in which he is reunited with Kate Winslet. DiCaprio is also currently shooting Martin Scorcese’s “Shutter Island.”
Will you look at those projects? Leo has great experience depicting lead characters in biopics (“The Aviator” and “Catch Me If You Can”), which is why I’m sure he can pull this off without any difficulties.
But how great must your career be if you almost simultaneously get to work with Scott, Mendes and Scorcese? I applaud Leo for his contribution to the movie industry over the past year.
