Brittany Murphy, Thora Birch and Tammy Blanchard have signed on to star in Sean McConville’s directorial debut “Deadline,” according to The Hollywood Reporter. In the psychological thriller, Murphy plays a writer who plans to pen a screenplay in an abandoned house. A severe writer’s block and several other unexpected events will eventually lead to her nervous breakdown.
Murphy was last seen in “The Dead Girl.” She also recently wrapped filming for Alex Merkin’s thriller “Across the Hall.” Blanchard most recently starred in “Bella,” and Birch just wrapped principal photography for Gideon Raff’s horror flick “Train.”
Although she’s done some crappy movies, it’s good to have Brittany Murphy back on the big screen. I liked Thora Birch in “American Beauty” and “Ghost World,” but that’s about it.
I’m glad, however, to see Tammy Blanchard picking up more roles. Although her character was certainly flawed in “Bella,” she still managed to pull off a solid performance. Of course, she’s also got a cute smile.
