F. Gary Gray finally set to direct ‘Marvin’ biopic

marvingayegray.jpgWe haven’t seen anything from him since 2005’s “Be Cool,” but according to Variety, F. Gary Gray is finally set to direct his biopic about legendary singer Marvin Gaye.

Written by C. Gaby Mitchell, “Marvin” focuses on the life of the iconic soul singer who was killed by his father during a quarrel in 1984. Gaye’s most famous songs include “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” and “Heard It Through the Grapevine.”

This has been Gray’s dream project for quite a while, but the director previously had trouble to acquire the music rights to Gaye’s songs.

A cast has yet to be announced, but Gray is planning to release the film sometime next year.

Gray’s credits also include “A Man Apart” and “The Italian Job.” The sequel, “The Brazilian Job,” is also scheduled for development in 2009.
