‘I Spit on Your Grave’ to return to big screen

spitonyourgraveremake.jpgWhen Meir Zarchi’s brutal revenge flick “I Spit on Your Grave” was released in 1978, critics quickly tore it apart, bashing the film for its use of gruesome violence and sex.

But bad reviews might in the end have helped the film generate a lot of popularity. Earlier today, Variety reported CineTel Films has bought the rights for the remake.

In the original film, a woman goes on a ruthless killing spree after being raped by a bunch of sadistic bastards. Running around the woods wearing almost no clothes, she makes sure none of her attackers lives to see the next day.

I first decided to watch the film a couple of years ago after I heard it was banned in some countries because of its high dose of brutality. Sure, the rape scenes are truly disgusting in “Spit,” but the killings are obviously pretty harmless compared to what we usually see in today's horror flicks.

Anyway, I only hope they inject the script for the remake with some new elements, because watching a woman being raped over and over again is not exactly compelling filmmaking. Nor is watching her run around slashing her attackers.
