Guy Ritchie to direct modern ‘Sherlock Holmes’ flick

guyritchiesherlocknews.jpgGuy Ritchie’s latest flick “RocknRolla” is not due in theaters until Oct. 31, 2008, but the British director is already developing his next project.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mr. Madonna is set to write and direct a Sherlock Holmes adventure for Warner Bros.

Apparently, the film is not another classic Holmes tale, but rather a new take on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s fictional detective. Holmes will be portrayed as a more modern character engaging in risky business.

Before launching into production, Ritchie will rewrite a script by Michael Johnson.

I was pretty surprised when I first read about this, but I am curious about Warner’s plans to revamp Sherlock Holmes. What exactly are they going to do to him? With Ritchie on board, I doubt it’ll be a film targeting the entire family.

How about a story that depicts Holmes as a drunken bastard who’s putting himself in danger on a daily basis because he’s bored with his standard work?
