Ludlum’s ‘Sigma Protocol’ gets big-screen treatment

sigmaprotocolludlum.jpgVariety reported earlier today that Universal has begun development of “The Sigma Protocol,” an adaptation based on Robert Ludlum’s novel of the same title.

Ludlum’s suspense novels starring his fictional character Jason Bourne have already inspired three profitable big-screen adventures.

For “Protocol,” Universal has selected screenwriters Art Marcum and Matt Holloway to tackle the script. The two previously collaborated on the screenplay for Paramount’s “Iron Man.”

“The Sigma Protocol” centers on an ambitious banker who’s thrust into a perilous conspiracy when he discovers an underground organization that has been manipulating the economy.

In related news, Universal is also gearing up for the development of a fourth “Bourne” movie, which Paul Greengrass will direct.

Ludlum’s stories are loaded with thrilling action that can look amazing on the screen if handled with care, so let’s hope they make a wise choice when hiring a director.
