‘Wanted’ web reviews
I have to admit I really enjoyed Timur Bekmambetov’s action thriller “Wanted,” which opened in theaters everywhere this weekend and received overall positive reviews from the nation’s top critics. Starring James McAvoy, the flick centers on a bored nobody who finds new meaning in his life when he joins a fraternity of assassins.
Sure, the film is totally implausible and pretty simplistic, but it boasts plenty of spectacular action sequences that keep the plot operating at a high level for nearly two hours. • Josh Tyler over at Cinema Blend calls it “a double barreled, balls to the wall, high-octane, completely over the top, ultra-violent, ultra-gory summer action movie that just doesn’t give two flips for slowing down.”
• Cinematical’s Eric D. Snider thinks “Wanted is full of such visual poetry, as well as several slam-bang action scenes that suggest the Russian fellow might have a long career ahead of him in Hollywood, if he wants it.”
• JimmyO from Joblo.com: “While Wanted may not be the best “shoot ‘em up” flick as of late, it is still a decent time at the movies.”
• Ron Henriques over at LatinoReview says “'Wanted' is basically 'The Matrix' with extra violence, insane visuals and a nonsensical story.”
• At Ropeofsilicon.com, Brad Brevet: “Wanted is a fantasy film that takes itself just serious enough to work, and if you are laughing it will be with what is seen on screen and not at the crazy shit you are watching.”
• And finally, Hunter Stephenson from /film says “The violence is graphic and plentiful and lends the film a much needed subversiveness to level out the silliness.”
Convinced? If you’re a fan of fast-paced, nonsensical action that looks awesome on the big screen, “Wanted” is worth a trip to the theater.
