Spider-Man is taking a break from serving your neighborhood for a while. According to a Los Angeles Times
blog, the fourth installment in the popular series is not scheduled for release until May 2011.
Laura Ziskin, producer of “Spider-Man,” said Sony Pictures has not yet acquired a complete screenplay for a fourth film, although the studio recently renewed its rights with Marvel.
Neither lead actor Tobey Maguire nor director Sam Raimi has confirmed their participation in the next film, but Ziskin thinks the sequel will likely be released in 2011.
Considering “Spider-Man 3” failed to fulfill my expectations, I’m not sure whether a fourth film is the best idea. But as long as the franchise brings in plenty of moola, your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man will continue to swing by your local theater.
