Three more join Emmerich’s ‘2012’

thandienewtonnews2.jpgThandie Newton, Danny Glover and Oliver Platt are in final negotiations to join Roland Emmerich’s upcoming apocalyptic action flick “2012.”

The film focuses on a group of people struggling with the large-scale cataclysm that ensues from the end of the world as predicted by the Mayan calendar.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Glover may play the president, with Newton slipping into the role of his daughter. Platt would star as the president’s chief of staff.

As we reported two weeks ago, John Cusack and Chiwetel Ejiofor have already boarded Columbia’s project.

Emmerich is directing a script he wrote with Harald Kloser. The two previously collaborated on the screenplay for Emmerich’s recent action spectacle “10,000 B.C.”

Glover was last seen in Michel Gondry’s “Be Kind Rewind” and will next star in Fernando Meirelles’ mystery drama “Blindness.”

Newton recently starred in David Schwimmer’s “Run, Fatboy, Run.” She is currently filming Oliver Stone’s George W. Bush biopic “W.”

As for Oliver Platt, he just wrapped principal photography for Ron Howard’s upcoming drama ”Frost/Nixon.”
