Emily the Strange to receive big-screen treatment

emilythestrangenews.jpgFictional counterculture character Emily the Strange will be making her way to the big screen soon, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Mike Richardson of Dark Horse Entertainment is leading the production of the project based on the character created by Rob Reger in the early ‘90s.

Richardson said no director has been hired yet, and no decision has been made about whether it will be a live-action or animated movie. Details about the plot are also kept under wraps, but Emily’s four cats Sabbath, Nee-Chee, Miles and Mystery will also be on board.

Richardson’s producing credits include “Hellboy” and its upcoming sequel, and last year’s horror flick “30 Days of Night.”

Personally, I think they should make this a traditional animated movie in the style of French success hit “Persepolis.” Emily’s look would perfectly fit that specific style, although it may not appeal to large audiences. We’ll know soon enough.
