Ewan McGregor boards ‘Amelia’

ewanmcgregornews3.jpgEwan McGregor has joined the cast of Mira Nair’s upcoming biopic about legendary pilot Amelia Earhart, according to Variety. Hilary Swank, Richard Gere and Virginia Madsen are already on board.

Written by Ronald Bass, the film chronicles the life of the famous American pilot who became the first woman to fly across the Atlantic by herself. In 1937, she disappeared somewhere over the Pacific during an attempt to fly around the world.

“Amelia” will primarily focus on the pilot’s career, but the plot will also examine her marriage to publisher George Putnam (played by Richard Gere) and her affair with Gene Vidal (McGregor).

McGregor was last seen in Marcel Langenegger’s thriller “Deception.” He is currently filming “I Love You Phillip Morris” and will soon start production on Ron Howard’s “Angels & Demons.”

Mira Nair’s directing credits include “Monsoon Wedding” and “The Namesake.”
