Teaser Review: “Eagle Eye”

eagleeyeteasertrailer.jpg

Our quick thoughts: It’s short, it doesn’t reveal too much and it doesn’t show Michelle Monaghan, but the first teaser trailer for D.J. Caruso’s upcoming action thriller “Eagle Eye” is a lot of fun. A clever setup and edgy editing should make people want to see more of the film, which is scheduled for release on Sept. 26, 2008.

The plot centers on a slacker and a single mom, who are framed as terrorists and forced to participate in a political assassination. Newcomer Shia LaBeouf stars alongside Monaghan, Billy Bob Thornton and Rosario Dawson. LaBeouf previously worked with Caruso on “Disturbia.”

I don’t really like any of Caruso’s films except “Disturbia,” so I’ll make sure not to walk into “Eagle Eye” with the highest expectations. But who knows, maybe the next trailer looks as solid as this teaser, and maybe the flick turns out to be a more grown-up version of “Disturbia.” The action looks fine, the premise sounds intriguing and I truly believe in the great cast’s abilities to deliver convincing performances. If the script is captivating enough, they may actually be able to pull this one off.

Freaky quote: “Somebody set me up.“ – Shia LaBeouf
