Daily shorts: Marvel's 'Runaways' come to big screen

runawaysnews.jpgThe Hollywood Reporter confirms Marvel’s comic book series “Runaways” is coming to the big screen. Released in 2002, the comics follow a group of teenagers discovering their parents are powerful villains. Brian K. Vaughan is penning the script.

Jonathan Demme replaces Martin Scorcese as director of a Bob Marley documentary. Scorcese couldn’t make the film because of scheduling conflicts. Demme is an experienced documentary filmmaker who most recently directed “Jimmy Carter Man From Plains.” (Variety)

• According to Variety, Kerry Washington has signed on to star alongside Eddie Murphy in “A Thousand Words,” a comedy about a man who has only 1,000 words left to speak before he will die. The film is directed by Brian Robbins, whose Eddie Murphy vehicle “Meet Dave” opens this summer.

• Sascha Penn has been tapped to adapt Stuart Gibbs’ novel “The Last Equation,” about a fugitive criminal who assists the government in finding Albert Einstein’s Pandora equation. Lionsgate will produce and distribute the film. (The Hollywood Reporter)
