Trailer Review: “Australia”

australiatrailer.jpg

Our quick thoughts: It’s been 7 years since he made a movie, but Australian director Baz Luhrmann could be close to making a glorious return on the big screen with his latest adventure “Australia,” about an English aristocrat who teams up with a stockman to drive her cattle across Australia’s most unforgiving land, only to face the Japanese bombing of the city of Darwin.

I highly enjoyed Luhrmann’s “Moulin Rouge!” for numerous reasons, but one thing I really appreciate is his wonderful direction. This first teaser trailer for “Australia” looks quite gorgeous, packed with a wonderful cinematography and incredibly beautiful music accompanying the masterful shots. Viewers are quickly introduced to the main story line, but the focus of the trailer is the romance between the lead characters, played by Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman.

Looks are often not enough to save a movie, but with Luhrmann gone for seven years now, I believe he has put enough work and passion into this project to make it a serious candidate for next year’s Academy Awards. The film’s November release date is a first hint. Now sit back and enjoy the wonderful “Australia” trailer here or below.

Freaky quote: “We can’t let them win.” – Nicole Kidman
