French star actress Fanny Ardant will make her directorial debut with a family drama entitled “Cendres et Sang” (Ashes and Blood), according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The film focuses on a single mother who travels back to her home country for the first time in 18 years. But her return will bring back past rivalries between two local clans, provoking an outbreak of violence following a family wedding.

Ardant, who is currently in Cannes promoting Italian filmmaker Paolo Sorrentino’s latest film “Il Divo,” also penned the screenplay. According to French film Web site Allocine, she will also take over the lead role.

Ardant’s last big hit was Claude Lelouch’s drama “Roman de gare.” She also starred in the international hit musical “8 Women.”
