Our quick thoughts: Here’s a thriller to look out for this summer. Based on an original idea by Steve Martin, “Traitor” centers on a U.S. special operative who turns his back on his government and starts working with a terrorist group. The film is directed by Jeffrey Nachmanoff and stars Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce and Jeff Daniels.
The first trailer premiered Friday on Yahoo! Movies, promising a captivating intrigue and a handful of solid performances. I really like the way the trailer is set up, although it may reveal a little too much about the plot. From a technical point of view, the edgy editing mixes in well with the accompanying music.
Action seems to be abundant in the film as well, but I hope the filmmakers didn’t overdo it. I also hope the film offers an in-depth analysis of its main characters, examining what makes a U.S. government agent switch to terrorist activities. Cat-and-mouse thrillers often lack a subtle story and spend too much time focusing on the pace of the plot or the look of the action sequences.
