Wednesday news take – April 9, 2008
It’s a remarkably slow news day today, but we managed to gather the most important and sum it up in our Wednesday news take. In casting news, Oliver Stone’s “W” adds another actor, while 50 Cent returns to the big screen in a drama. We also have a new poster for “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2.” Enjoy.
Corddry is latest addition to cast of “W”
“The Daily Show” comedian Rob Corddry has signed on to star in Oliver Stone’s upcoming political drama “W,” according to MTV News. Corddry is the third one to board the project this week, after Thandie Newton and Ioan Gruffuddm, who signed on Monday.
“W” focuses on the life and presidency of George W. Bush. Corddry will jump into the role of press secretary Ari Fleischer. He recently starred in “Blades of Glory” and “The Heartbreak Kid,” and will next be seen in “Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay.”
50 Cent has “Regret”
Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson is in final negotiations to join Danny Huston and John Ortiz in Joshua Leonard’s directorial debut “Spectacular Regret.” According to Variety, he is expected to play a death row inmate whose upcoming execution has drawn massive media attention.
Leonard also compiled the script for the film. He previously starred in “The Blair Witch Project” and “Hatchet,” and will next be seen in this weekend’s new release “Prom Night.” Leonard also co-directed “Beautiful Losers.”
Jackson most recently starred in Irwin Winkler’s “Home of the Brave,” but barely anybody has seen the film. He made his big screen debut in 2005’s “Get Rich or Die Tryin’.”
“Traveling Pants” sequel gets poster
I really enjoyed Ken Kwapis 2005 comedy “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants,” but I don’t think a sequel was really necessary. Anyway, the film ended up getting great reviews and making good money, and the second installment is scheduled to open August 8, 2008.
“The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2” now has a first poster, and although it lacks the pants, at least it groups the four main actresses. In case you have not seen the first film, it stars America Ferrera, Alexis Bledel, Blake Lively and Amber Tamblyn. Enjoy the poster below.
