We’re a little late with our Friday news take this week, but that’s because The Screening Log has undergone some major design changes to suit you better. I hope you enjoy our easier, more sophisticated structure and style. So let’s get back to work. In film news yesterday, Mekhi Phifer returns to the big screen, Ewan McGregor eyes a Ron Howard flick, and Tilda Swinton goes abroad to star in an Italian film. Also, starting Monday, look out for more extensive film news coverage. Enjoy!
‘ER’ doc packs for ‘Moon’
Mekhi Phifer is set to produce and star in an adaptation of James L. White’s graphic novel “Hunter’s Moon,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Phifer will play a stockbroker whose son is kidnapped during a hunting trip in the woods. White is in talks to pen the screenplay.
Phifer, who is known best for his role on NBC’s “ER,” will also produce the flick via his Facilitator Films. He recently produced the surprise hit comedy “This Christmas,” directed by Preston A. Whitmore.
McGregor to join ‘Angels & Demons’?
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ewan McGregor is in negotiations to join Tom Hanks in Ron Howard’s upcoming mystery thriller “Angels & Demons.”
Based on the book by Dan Brown, the film stars Tom Hanks as symbologist Robert Langdon, who discovers a plot by the Illuminati to blow up the Vatican. McGregor would play an aide to the pope who assists Langdon in his investigation.
Serving as a prequel to “The Da Vinci Code,” the film is directed by Ron Howard and will head into production this summer.
McGregor can currently be seen in Marcel Langenegger’s thriller “Deception,” in which he stars alongside Hugh Jackman and Michelle Williams.
Tilda Swinton is ‘Love’
Oscar winner Tilda Swinton has signed on to star in “I Am Love,” an Italian romance directed by Luca Guadagnino.
According to Variety, Swinton will play a foreign matron who falls in love with a chef in Milan. Shooting is scheduled to start this summer.
Swinton most recently won Academy Award for her performance as a lawyer in Tony Gilroy’s “Michael Clayton.” She will next be seen in Andrew Adamson’s “The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian.”
