Our quick thoughts: Locking your doors is not a reason to feel safe anymore. On Wednesday, Rogue Pictures released the first trailer for its upcoming horror thriller “The Strangers,” and I have to admit, I’m not really sure what to expect from this. While the premise sounds awfully old, I like the way the trailer is set up, although it reveals a little too much for my taste.
As for the plot, Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman star as a young couple whose vacation home is invaded by three masked strangers. Sounds a bit like a combination of “Vacancy” and “Funny Games.” A few scenes in this first trailer look incredibly scary, while others point to the presence of several of those cheap shock effects we usually find in teen horror flicks. I do however appreciate the way they set up the music during the final 20 seconds. At least it increases the tension generates a satisfying showdown.
“The Strangers” is directed by Bryan Bertino and opens nationwide May 30, 2008.
