Commentary: Lindsay Lohan sex tape rumors

Whatever happened to the charming Linsday Lohan we all admired in “Freaky Friday” and “Mean Girls”? As sad as it may sound, and in a matter of only a few months, she went from an inspiration to many younger cinemagoers to someone nobody should in fact care about.

Last year must have been a tough year for her. She made a couple of bad movies, had a few too many drinks, tried out rehab, and, in case you haven't heard yet (which I'm sure you have by now), is currently involved in an alleged sex scandal.
Last Thursday, a video popped up on the Web that allegedly showed Lohan performing a sex act on her ex-boyfriend Calum Best, son of legendary soccer player George Best. Frankly, I don't care at all whether it was her in the video or not. To me, Lohan has recently mutated into an unimportant actress I never knew personally, probably never will, and simply don't care about anymore.

Had such a scandal (true or not) occurred right after her sudden success with “Mean Girls,” I have to admit I would have probably been shocked. But now, the situation is a little different. Put rather simply, I just grew tired of her. A couple of months ago, I occasionally wondered why she started to pick roles in disastrous films, but today, I simply don't care.

Lohan, as many others by the way, finally succumbed to the Hollywood hysteria and probably couldn't stand the pressure of fame any longer. Whether it's her fault or not, it doesn't matter. Whether she did some things in her own personal life she shouldn't have done, it doesn't matter. The people who are usually more interested in someone else's life than in their own (probably miserable) existence took control of Lindsay's lifestyle, and there is nothing anyone can do about it.

Anyway, I do not care about what Lindsay does in her free time, who she goes out with, or how many pounds she put on during her last vacation. What I am interested in a tiny little bit more is how she came to choose so many bad scripts after starting her acting career with three fabulous movies. If there's one thing I honestly admit, it's that I always admired Lohan for her sudden career boost a couple of yeas ago.

I loved her in “The Parent Trap” and “Freaky Friday,” and I even adored her in “Mean Girls.” Disney's “Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen,” really tanked, and from there, I think it all went down hill. There was ”Georgia Rule,” “Herbie Fully Loaded,” “Just My Luck,” and of course last year's “I Know Who Killed Me,” a film that should never have been released.

Meanwhile, as far as I can remember, we started hearing about her doing drugs or consuming alcohol, or both, or one after the other or both at the same time, or… whatever. From the younger actress who did an awesome job in some awesome flicks, she became the messed-up Hollywood star who does everything wrong. Who's to blame? I don't care.

You probably know all of this already and care less about it than I do (although someone out there keeps buying those tabloids), but I felt I had to comment on how Lindsay, at least for me, went from a charismatic newcomer to one among many stars I don't get excited about anymore at all.

This alleged sex scandal story was the story of the week, one could say, and now every tabloid and every Web site reporting on it earlier claim it was not even her in the picture or video. Truth is, when I first read about it, I just sat at my desk, emotionless, looking at a very distorted picture of two unrecognizable people enjoying themselves.

Sex scandal or not, I do not even see why it matters. You find every Hollywood star's full schedule for the entire week in every tabloid or on the Web nowadays anyway, so I cannot share any reasons for all the hype this one video eventually created. No one saw Lohan's previous films and I doubt she'll ever make a glorious comeback, so I am still wondering why's she's still getting all this attention. I really don't care that she does, but I sometimes wonder why a situation like this just keeps happening over and over again.

Folks, if you want to give me your thoughts on this whole thing, or on Lindsay, her films or anything related to her, feel free to post your comments. Then again, I can totally understand your lack of interest in her or the so-called scandal. After all, I did not care about it either, even though it prompted me to sit down and write up a quick comment about how and why I don't care about Lohan anymore.

Gotta say, i totally agree with you on this...she has turned from a promising up and comer to an absolute trainwreck...i thought she was great in freaky friday and mean girls...and youre right, her debacle of a career has been downhill ever since...she got caught up in that l.a. scene..and it became more about "being seen" than about the work...i also have to say that the sex tape stuff does not surprise me...it was just a matter of time with her...
i think people are just sick of her and her horrendous choices as a human being...ie. drunk driving, drugging, partying, blah blah...the list goes on...

yes, the tabloids are selling, because deep down i think people love watching some of these lame starlets crash and burn (not literally of course, though this one has come close)...hollywoods young stars are given so much, and they take so much for granted...people like to pause and watch a good trainwreck...and if they can watch the actual derailment every week in the magazines? all the better...i, like you, just DONT CARE about her anymore...she had it all right in the palm of her hand, and she threw it all away...not bright...

i just dont have an ounce of respect left for her.
