2nd Asian Film Awards
“Secret Sunshine” picked up top awards in three major categories Sunday at the 2nd Asian Film Awards at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center.
The South Korean romantic comedy, in which a heartbroken woman moves to the birthplace of her late husband, was awarded best film, best director (Lee Chang-dong) and best actress (Jeon Do-yeon).
Tony Leung Chiu-wai was named best actor for his role in Ang Lee’s “Lust, Caution.” The award for best supporting actor was handed to Sun Honglei in Sergei Bodrov’s Oscar-nominated drama “Mongol.”
Au Kin-yee and Wai Ka-fai won best screenwriter for “Mad Detective,” while Liao Pen-jung received the best cinematographer award for “Help me Eros.” In the categories honoring efforts in production, David Richardson won best editor for “Eye in the Sky” and Ng Yuen-fai received the prize for best visual effects in “The Warlords.”
Other winners included Joan Chen, who won best supporting actress for “The Sun also Rises,” and Vishal Dadlani, who took home the best composer award for “Om Shanti Om.” Cao Jiu-ping and Zhang Jian-qun were named best production designers for “The Sun also Rises.”
The Lifetime Achievement Award went to Yoji Yamada.
