What you should rent this week, and what you shouldn't
Unless you know exactly what you desire to watch, a weekly trip to your local video store can give you a headache. With so many new releases to choose from, which one are you in the mood for? Which is an absolut must-see, and which should you avoid at any cost? The Screening Log's newest team member Heather Provost knows exactly what you should pick and what you should skip.
Get it: "Enchanted"
This is what it is: Princess Giselle's (Amy Adams) fabulous cartoon life in the kingdom of Andalasia is put to a halt when the evil Queen Narissa (Susan Sarandon) exiles her to the bitter brutal world of New York City. The wide-eyed princess must learn quickly how to adapt, and is helped by her jaded Prince Charming (Patrick Dempsey).
My always strong and quite often, brilliant opinion: If there's one thing I love, it's the ability to laugh at yourself... and that is just what Disney has done with this film. All the while doing this, they have also managed to tell a great story with a message layered in there so subtly, it won't obnoxiously smack you over the head with it. The musical numbers are light and fun, and kudos to Adams for turning in her own enjoyable vocals. This is one for the whole family, and for once the adults don't have to take one for the team. It's a solid romantic comedy with a touch of Disney's magic fairy dust... and not too much of the damn Disney dust to be annoying. They certainly got it right with this one.
The final word: Because I snacked on my favorite Haribou Peach Candies while viewing this, I will give it 4 1/2 Peach Candies out of 5.
Forget it: "Blonde Ambition"
This is what it is: A piece of craptosity... oh wait, this is the synopsis section. A blonde girl (Jessica Simpson) decides to make it as a big-city career woman, but a couple of corporate bad guys use her in their evil plottings... blah blah...
My always strong and quite often, brilliant opinion: Do not walk, but RUN away from this film. If you missed it in that one theater on the one day it was playing, be thankful. Jessica Simpson is basically a big pile of talentless when it comes to movie appearances, and this one is no exception. The dumb clumsy blonde schtick gets old after about four minutes. And could someone please tell me what Luke Wilson is doing in a movie also boasting the talents of Andy Dick? Did he get confused and think he was showing up on the set of the third "Legally Blonde" installment? Skip it you guys, just trust me on this one. I sucked it up so you won't have to... see how self-sacrificing I am!?
The final word: Because I snacked on my favorite Haribou Peach Candies while viewing this, I will give it an 1/8 of a Peach Candy.

I missed Enchanted in the theatres, but I'll be sure to rent it soon. Great commentary...I thought Blonde Ambition was a Legally Blonde movie, too, when I heard the title, so I can't really blame Luke Wilson for possibly being confused. Thanks for the informative and funny article
I love Heather's column- her writing is funny and bright and will have me checking in often to find out what to get.....and what to forget!
Great job!
Loved this new column---smart addition. Heather is a witty, talented, writer, and I look forward to putting her on my "must read" list.
What a great column!! I enjoyed every adorable word! Heather is smart & witty and I won't be renting anymore movies before checking in here :)
I am a huge fan of Heather. I read her blog regularly. I love her perspective and her sense of humor. I always agree with her on most everything, and this is no exception. I am a mother of 2 and I get really tired of watching the animated films. I must say that I really enjoyed this film. Heather was dead on with her review. Thanks Heather...I will be back for more.
Heather is always right and she is right on with her review of "Enchanted." What a wonderfully fun and well done movie. I too appreciate a cast that actually does their own singing, and I agree that Adams does a great job with her songs. And I will stay away from "Blonde Ambition." Thanks for the tip, Heather!
