Oscars 2008 Red Carpet Fashion

Quick thoughts:
I was extremely excited to see the new fashion on the 2008 Oscar red carpet. After the first few stars strutted down looking anything but fashionable, I almost lost all hope. I’m sad to say that this year only a few got it right.

The best: Katherine Heigl was flirty and fun, yet sophisticated and classy in her red Escada dress. Miley Cirus’ look in a red Valentino was great. Although she could have added an accessory, it is very refreshing to see a 15-year-old actually dress like one. Helen Mirren was lovely in a Red Diamond sleeved dress that was specially made for her.

The worst: Renee Zellweger wore a silver, Carolina Herrera piece that looked like a prom dress gone wrong. Her short combover only made things worse. Marion Cotillard wore a Jean Paul Gaultier fish dress. Besides the fin print, the dress worked for her body. However, I wish someone would have told her to eat her food instead of wearing it.

Alber Elbaz’s black dress worn by Tilda Swinton was just horrible. She looked like Chucky’s sister. I don’t understand why she traded the plain, chin-length dark hair that she had in “Michael Clayton” for her new bright orange look. At least the plain version was bearable! Day-Lewis' wife was awful in her red bow strapped black flower dress, and Diablo Cody looked like she belonged in the stone age along with Wilma Flintstone.

The final Word: There needs to be some serious rethinking before the next Oscars. If you don’t know what you are doing, don’t pretend! At least ask someone before you walk the red carpet in something you shouldn’t be seen in out of the house!
