'Romancing the Stone' gets remake

Fox has started working on a remake of Robert Zemeckis' 1984 Oscar-nominated movie "Romancing the Stone," the Hollywood Reporter announced earlier today.

The flick followed a romance novelist who travels to Colombia to locate her missing sister and ends up embarking on an adventure with an American solider.

"Stone" helped boost the careers of its director and its lead cast, which included Michael Douglas, Danny DeVito and Kathleen Turner.

The trade also said Fox has hired Dan McDermott (co-writer of "Eagle Eye") to write the screenplay. And just in case you wanted to know, "Stone" was nominated for an Academy Award for best film editing.
