Kevin Macdonald's next movie is a thriller titled "State of Play," and you can check out the first trailer for the flick right after the jump.

Based on the British television series, the film kicks off with the mysterious murder of a popular U.S. Congressman's research assistant.

That's where Cal McCaffrey comes in, a determined reporter who launches his own murder investigation and quickly uncovers dark secrets that could threaten the nation's power structures.

Check out this impressive cast: Ben Affleck, Russell Crowe, Rachel McAdams, Jason Bateman, Helen Mirren, Jeff Daniels, Viola Davis and Robin Wright Penn.

Macdonald also directed the great "Touching the Void" and even greater "The Last King of Scotland." Judging by the trailer, "State of Play" looks quite interesting. At least for now. The film opens April 17, 2009.
