James Cameron interested in helming 'Frobidden Planet'?

As you may have heard already, a remake of Fred Wilcox's 1956 sci-fi classic "Forbidden Planet" is currently in the works at Warner Bros., with J. Michael Straczynski writing the screenplay.

Well, according to IESB, no other than James Cameron is potentially interested in directing the flick. This has not been confirmed at this stage, but that's what sources told the site.

Cameron's interest would not be a surprise. The Oscar-winning director already planned on developing a "Forbidden Planet" back in 1998 after he did "Titanic," but somehow, the project never really took off.

Cameron is currently working on "Avatar," his first directorial effort since 2005's "Aliens of the Deep." He's also currently attached to direct "Battle Angel."

In the original "Planet," a space crew from Earth is sent to a distant planet to check up on a colony of scientists. Shortly after their arrival, they find a scientist and his daughter who survived a cruel monster roaming the planet.
