Shia LaBeouf has agreed to play the lead character in Paramount's big-screen version of the upcoming John Grisham novel "The Associate."

According to Variety, the plot centers on a student ready to graduate from Yale Law School when he's tricked into a job at a lawfirm where he gets access to crucial information about multibillion-dollar lawsuit.

The project is obviously still in the earliest developmental stage. As for the novel, it will hit store shelves this coming January.

LaBeouf starred in two big blockbusters this year: "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" and "Eagle Eye."

He also has two projects coming up next year: "New York, I Love You" and Michael Bay's anticipated action sequel "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen."
