Scott Derrickson's remake of the 1951 sci-fi classic "The Day the Earth Stood Still" dominated the international box office this weekend with $39 million in ticket sales. The film's current worldwide total stands at $70 million.

At No. 2, "Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa" collected another $33.6 million in 46 markets, bringing its overseas total to $172.7 million. Following in third place was Marc Forster's "Quantum of Solace," which picked up $5.2 million for a cumulative gross of $367 million. 

Meanwhile, Disney's family adventure "Bolt" earned $4.1 million at No. 4, lifting its total haul to $12 million. Pixar's "WALL-E" followed closely with $4 million in fifth place. Its internatiomal total now stands at $276.8 million.

Other results from the overseas box office: "Four Christmases" pulled $3.8 million in 18 territories ($15.7 million total); "Inkheart" took home $3.1 million in four markets; and "Burn After Reading" reached a cumulative gross of $78.5 million after this weekend's earnings of $3.6 million.
